Character Name: Ango Sakaguchi
Canon: Bungo Stray Dogs
Canon point: The current arc, where Ango, Atsushi, Lucy, and Kyouka are on the run and hiding in Lucy's room.
History: link here!
Strengths & Weaknesses: Hardworking - Whenever Ango does something, he puts his all into it. Anything worth doing is worth doing well, and he frequently goes above and beyond in his work to make sure everything is done correctly. His attention to detail is also commendable.
Composed - Ango rarely loses his cool. On the outside, he appears calm and collected, and perhaps even a little boring. His inner thoughts are kept to himself, only to be shown when he feels appropriate. He's not emotionless, but he can keep his emotions in check well enough to fool even the mafia. His life has literally depended on his ability to stay calm, so it's safe to say that he's the voice of reason in the middle of chaotic situations.
Inconspicuous - Ango makes an effort to not stand out in any way. He blends into the background, and while people might know of him they don't really know him. Part of this is for safety reasons; he can't exactly be noticeable while trying to act undercover. But part of this is just that it's how he is. He sits back and listens, nodding along and saying words of vague agreement. People might go "oh it's that guy, what's-his-name, the one from accounting" and that's it, and that's how Ango prefers it.
Responsible - Ango is Mr. Responsible most of the time. With Odasaku and Dazai, he is the one who usually brings up the fact that they need to hold back and not get into dangerous situations. He's also one to discourage Dazai's more self-destructive habits. Ango is the one who steps up to do the right thing, when the situation calls for it. He doesn't usually run in first- see the 'inconspicuous' point- but he will pull the strings and make sure work gets done and wrongs are righted.
Smart/adaptable - I included these two together because they kind of are one in the same for Ango. While he is definitely book-smart- he did bookkeeping for the mafia for several years, after all- he really shines in how he can apply what he learns to new situations. The information he gathers, either with his ability or through mundane means, never goes to waste. He can think critically and apply his resources in effective ways, calling on favors and sending out his men to work for him in just the right way to ensure success. Any challenge is more of a huge puzzle, and Ango can expertly fit the pieces together if he thinks on it for long enough.
Caring - This is hidden deep within him, but Ango has a soft heart. While he keeps up the indifferent exterior to protect himself, he actually does get attached to people who show him kindness. That's how he became such good friends with Dazai and Odasaku: they just kept bugging him and they wormed their way into his heart, and he was unable to let them go. Even years later, when Odasaku is dead and Dazai hates him, he still hasn't stopped caring about both of them.
This care is extended to people in general, too. One of the things he does during his time in the mafia is keep a record book of those killed in action. Using his ability to gather information on the men and women who die, Ango writes down their lives in his record books: their names, birthdates, family information, accomplishments, and so on. See this image for more, that's an actual quote from Ango.
Dangerously Pragmatic - Ango is efficient in his work. He keeps track of a hundred moving pieces at once and is constantly making adjustments to make sure his plans work. As a consequence of this, Ango can be a bit...well. 'Murder happy' might be the nicest way to put it. He has no qualms with killing if he deems it necessary for a plan to succeed. It's the dark side of his calculating mind: sometimes bad things have to happen for the sake of good, and Ango is willing to bloody up his hands if the situation calls for it.
Too serious - Ango is a serious person who takes his work seriously. He rarely smiles, and it's even rarer for him to actually relax and have fun. In fact, 'fun' is pretty much the antithesis to Ango. In a group of drunk friends, he's the designated driver who lectures his friends while they sing loudly in the back seat of his car. And then the next morning he's the one who says "I told you so" while making coffee for everyone to nurse their hangovers with.
Guilt - Ango was a spy who got in too deep and got too attached to a couple of people who should have been his enemies. Because of those connections, they went looking for him after he went missing. And because they went looking for him, one of the two ended up dead and the other permanently scarred by what happened. Ango feels guilt over everything that happened with him, Odasaku, and Dazai. He feels guilty that he had to betray their trust. He feels guilty that Odasaku died while he lived. He feels horrible about wanting to stay in contact with Dazai when he knows he has no right to ask for that. The work he did as a spy was important to the government, but it destroyed his friendship and personal life. The guilt he carries over his actions is a huge motivator, and is basically the reason why Bungou Stray Dogs as a series even exists: Ango was the one who cleared Dazai's record so he could live as a normal person, even at great personal cost to himself. Ango continues to act in the series on Dazai's behalf, partially because it involves his work (keeping an eye on ability-users in Yokohama) but partially because he still feels guilty over betraying Dazai's trust. He knows he will never be forgiven, and yet he keeps reaching out anyway. It's his guilt that pushes him like that.
Workaholic - Ango Tries Too Hard and works long hours most days. It's a running gag in the gag manga (Bungou Stray Dogs Wan) that he falls asleep in weird places, like his office and such.
Powers: Gravitas, Illusio, Sonui
Items:
1: LOOK AT THIS PHOTOGRAPH
2: a book of matches
3: It appears to be a leather-bound notebook, one of a more professional grade than what is found in most stores. Most of the pages are filled with notes on the lives and deaths of several men and women, all of whom belonged to a group called 'the Port Mafia' just prior to their deaths. Whoever wrote in this notebook took the time and care to record as much about their lives as they could possibly find. The last dozen or so pages are blank.
4: the ball in this image.
5: A bouquet of white lilies. There is a card tucked into the bouquet that reads "for Odasaku".
Character Alignment: Slightly on the 'Satan' side of the scale. He's generally a good person and wants to do what's right, but he is also very pragmatic and isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty when it's needed.
Motives: He will absolutely, 100%, kill for Dazai's sake. Either to protect him, or even to keep Dazai from finding out the truth of what will happen in his future (Pan is taking Dazai from before Odasaku dies, we talked about this lol). A quick way to get him to kill is to threaten Dazai in any way. This also extends to any CR he gathers within the game itself, he will reach "I will kill for you" levels by the end of it. Additionally, he is of the "I will do what's needed to make sure the plan succeeds" mindset, and if someone needs to be killed to make sure a plan succeeds he will absolutely do it without hesitation. Convincing him that killing someone is 'for the greater good' is pretty easy to do.
Sample: Why just give one link when you can have several! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Victim/Killer Preference: No preference! Just include him with the regular rolls.
Volunteer: Nope! Just do regular rolls with him.
Anything else: If you end up needing a mole for whatever reason, Ango is extremely easy to bribe/blackmail.
